All carmakers can screw up; some just do it more regularly than others. If you spend just a little time on the 3 and 5 series forums at bimmer.org, you'll see that they have just as many problems as us, maybe more.
The answer is to badger your service dept. into fixing all this stuff to your satisfaction. If one place won't, go to another. If no one will, lobby AoA for some satisfaction. That's true with any make of car.

As I was at my dealer on Monday learning my A/C wasn't defective after all, someone taking delivery of a new 4.2 (Nemo)had it stall in the parking lot. All the king's horses and all the king's men couldn't get it started again.
Subsequent smoke from the vicinity of the fuse box indicated a possible electrical glitch. She got my loaner (2.8).
Regards

My new 01' 330i had a NAV system that did not function upon delivery. The receiver had to be replaced and that part was a 4 week wait away in Germany. Then the transmission had to be removed at 1800 miles to put a new clutch assembly in. That was also a one month wait. The pressure plate was faulty from the day of delivery. Audi is not immune from problems, but neither is BMW. BMW's inline 6s are cooking or worse, catching on fire because of faulty fans and some kind of engineering snafu that keeps the temp gauge from letting you know it is happening. Plus, the V-8s are still melting down with alarming regularity. If you absolutely want no problems, then your only choice would have been a Lexus.
All is now well with the BMW and all became well with our 4.2 after some "shaking down" time. Do not get discoureged yet. If you think that because you you spend $45,000 on a car that it should have no problems ever, then you are mistaken. The amount of engineering and extras you are demanding in such a car creates more opportunity for gremlins to approach. It is just the way it is.

car's electrical system reliable within the next two attempts. You have no choice about their next attempt; however by limiting the number of times the car will be in the shop in the future, you act both reasonabley and effectively; You set a limit to amount of frustration that you will need to deal with, while giving them a legitimate shot of making you happy with your existing vehicle.
