I go 6 mos, 10k with Mobil 1 0w40. Surely could go longer with no issues based on test results...
I have seen from those who send their oil out. But I like to be safe and the twice a year, 10k numbers are easy to remember.

They want you back every 3k to charge $100 more often. :/
3k miles is nothing for synthetic.
Assuming synthetic IS, in fact used, and the filter is changed each time...10k miles or 6 months is perfectly adequate. I change my Mobil1 0w-40 and filter every 10k and it comes out brown, but still translucent.
