N80 EVAP valve clattering
1998 Audi A6 2.8 30V
I noticed the N80 'evap purge valve' is 'clattering' (switching on/off the whole time).
There no codes in VAGcom.
a) what is that thing doing? what is it for?
b) what may cause it to constantly switch on/off?
c) Is the valve itself bad?
d) if I should replace, what donor cars/engine fit? Part number?

i believe the purge valve takes the fumes from the gas tank and puts it into the intake. when theres a problem with the valve it will throw a check engine light.
