...the parts for the CD based version at $3500 and no one has successfully installed a factory DVD nav in a pre-05 A6. do a search for "stoney's links" which will tell you more about the A6 than you ever wated to know......

I've had very good luck with my Tomtom. You can get a standalone unit or a version for the Palm Tungsten T3. I chose the latter since it uses bluetooth and doesn't involve wires all over the place. So I put the receiver on the dash. And the palm is stuck to my dash with a thumbnail sized piece of velcro. The Palm doubles as an mp3 player when I'm not using the navigation since I've got a 1gig SD flash card in it.
I like this solution since I usually have my palm with me anyway, it doesn't require any unsightly wiring and is easy to stash in the glove box when I need to park the car in an area where theft might be an issue.
Cheers,

I've been looking at aftermarket nav systems because they're much cheaper than trying to get a factory one and I can move it to a different vehicle when I need to. I've been checking out the Lowrance Iway 500c. Seems like a good unit, it has a 20 gig Hard drive, 10 gig for mapping, the other 10 for music. I Just like the fact that it comes loaded with detailed info for the whole country. Check it out at gpscity.com. The only draw back is that it's a new unit and not much feed back on it. I've been monitoring gpspassion.com forums to see what people think about it. So far, reviews seem rather positive.

search the archive for Navigation Plus. you might want to ask in the allroad forum since they (2005 allroad) got the "RNS-E" version which uses DVD data disc and got MP3 player capability with memory card.
Audi also produced older "Navigation Plus" units which use the CD-ROMs but with fancier LCD screen that what we used to get here in the States.

Can you have him post a picture of the DVD disc he received with the Nav Plus unit please? I beleive he would be the missing link to all of us who have purchased a Nav plus DVD-RNS aftermarket but are waiting for the North American DVD to be released. Much appreciated.

Is it possible, and if so, how hard would it be to retrofit NAV+ into an A6 without the factory Nav?
