I am in southern california and I am looking at buying an '01 A6 2.7T , silver metallic with onyx interior from a private party. It is a 6 speed and has 5200 miles with Bose premium sound, Premium package, luxury and sport package. It is absolutely beautiful. The price is $35,000. Is this a good price? I am new to the Audi world so please excuse the newbie questions. I have a '98 BMW 528ia sport that I purchased about a year ago and love the handling (now will probably be wife's car). I was planning on buying another BMW 528 or 530 - 5speed but decided to check out the Audi A6 2.7T . Wow, what a car! I would like to keep the Audi for 5-6 years. How is the long term maintenance and repair cost on the A6 with 2.7T compared to BMW. Can I buy an extended warranty from Audi? if so how munch? I am really excited about this car. Please excuse all the questions, I am sure they have been asked several times.
I need to make my decision in a couple of days so all your input/comments are appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
h.

Check the link below. $31369 plus $2500-$3000(?) for all the options for private party deal.
From all I've read, long term maintenance will be about the same as BMW. You will get the balance of the 4yr/50k OEM warranty, but for extended coverage, need to get it aftermarket unless you buy from an Audi dealer.
It's a great car. Good luck. And keep us posted.<ul><li><a href="http://www.edmunds.com/used/2001/audi/a6/27tquattroawd4drsedan27l6cylturbo5a/prices.html?submit=Customized+Appraisal">http://www.edmunds.com/used/2001/audi/a6/27tquattroawd4drsedan27l6cylturbo5a/prices.html?submit=Customized+Appraisa

Go to the Edmunds website and do a customized appraisal. Private party price will be in the $35-36k area.
I would buy an aftermarket warranty...some have paid $1000-$2000 for 100,000-150,000 total mile coverage...not bad. Otherwise I would expect long-term costs to be similar to the BMW.
Fair price, very low miles...excellent...it will be rare to find an '01 with only 5k on it. Go for it...it will be awesome

it has a 7 year/70,000 mile emissions warranty. In other words, all emissions related parts (including the turbos!) are covered under this warranty. Just something nice to know.
BTW, I now have 43,000 miles on my 2.7t, and I enjoy it more now then ever! My wife has an '98 M3, and although it handles a bit better then my car, I enjoy driving the Audi more!

LITEARLLY). We leased the same car with Tiptronic for about $7500 more than that. You might want to call a finance co. and find out what THEY think it's worth. Audi owners and dealers seem to think our cars are worth more than others do. But they just don't understand.....
Like you, once we drove the 2.7T, there was no choice (except the color).
Good luck!

Are you sure that the turbos are covered for 7 years/70,000 miles? If they are then I would feel better about that. What about brake pads/rotors, are they covered under 4/50 maintenance agreement?

heard of that "law"...but I haven't been here very long...so perhaps Chris JB is correct.
Even wiper blades are covered until 4/50k. Just like Chris JB said "everything except gas and tires".

if you go into the dealer with blown turbos, is that really causing obvious emissions problems? If so, then I'll bet yes, you have to replace them. If not, I'm sure the dealer would be happy to resist as much as possible.
It might take some work, but for $5k in repairs, I'd certainly be motivated to go to a smog center to check if it got them covered.
