Default Need advice on where to buy new TCU

Hi, This is John from Thailand.

I own a A6 C5 Multitronic. Now the transmission is fail only after the car runs for 30-60 mins. My mechanic said the TCU is faulty. I did send it to ECUTESTING.COM but they did not find the problem.

I think I will buy the new one. The part no. is 01J 927 156 CJ.

Could anyone advise where I can buy the new unit?

Why would you buy a new one if they said there is nothing wrong with the one you sent in?

It could well be the transmission is the problem..sticking solenoids valves or whatever. The transmission works when it's cold but after it warms up what does it do? Have you tried changing the transmission fluid and filter? Was the pan just filthy with ground up friction material? Was the pickup plugged or was there foreign material in the pan that could plug a pickup?

Because I think the unit is fail when hot. Some electronics equipment can behave like this.

Yes, I did change the transmission fluid and filter. The pan was clean.

After driving 30-60 mins, the Gear position positions on dash are all blink. Then the car will not run anymore. If I leave the car for several hours, it will run again.

The error code I got is:
18221 - Pressure Control Valve 1 (N215): Electrical Malfunction
P1813 - 32-10 - Resistance too High - Intermittent

My mechanic measured the valve with ohm meter and it was fine.

OK…try cooling the TCU with a refrigerant spray every 20 minutes or so. If the transmission continues to function past your normal problems you've isolated it. But it seems more likely to be an internal transmission problem with the pressure control valve.

Thanks for advice, but it would be hard to cool it down this way since the TCU is inside gearbox.

I'm really sure that the TCU is faulty.

Does someone know the place to buy?

The TCU is under the carpet under the passenger seat.

On a multitronic? I'd have to look it up and I really don't care that much.

Nope, on regular tiptronic.

He's right, on CVT, it is inside the transmission at rear.

Well, that sucks. I suppose one has to remove the engine/transmission as well to change out the TCU!

John just because your mechanic claims the ohm value on the N215 pressure valve is good does not rule out that it is sticking or the coil is failing when hot "open winding".

I could type out paragraphs and paragraphs about this transmission and why I think this is the cause, of course I would have to ask several questions too, but I'm not.

Look over the pfd carefully starting at page 33 and after for general tech info, you might want to pass this on to your mechanic also.

This is the complete manual on the CVT unit and nothing but the truth.
