Default Need help with error codes P1196, P1197, and P0134

I have replaced both pre-cat O2 sensors and checked all connections. I have also replaced the fuse in the driver side fuse panel that is responsible for keeping these working proper. I have checked (and replaced) one blown maxi fuse under the steering column. Are these codes the result of my after-cat O2 sensors going bad? I was under the impression that the after cat O2 sensors were just "tattle tale" sensors that were used to determine the efficiency of the cats? If someone could help it would be much appreciated.

I wish I knew what those codes were.
Why not look them up and post the meanings?

My appologies, forgot to provide the appropriate details. They are as follows :

P1196 - O2 Sensor heater circuit, bank 1 sensor 1 electrical malfunction

P1197 - O2 Sensor heater circuit, bank 2 sensor 1 electrical malfunction

P0134 - O2 sensor circuit no activity detected (bank 1, sensor 1)

I'd pull the "real" codes with VAG-COM, but it looks like two bad sensors to me. Test and perhaps replace.

Not to sound rude but I am not sure you noticed that I had mentioned that I have replaced both pre-cat O2 sensors (which is what the codes seem to be referring to)...unless you mean that it is somehow the after cat O2 sensors that are causing these codes?

I doubt the post-cat sensors would cause the issue. What did you replace the sensors with?

Try scanning values/readings from the sensors via vag-com. That would be my next step to determine what readings come out of the two new sensors

I replaced them with two universal fit Bosch sensors from ECS Tuning. I will hook them up to Vag Com as soon as I get an extra minute. I didn't think it would be the post cat sensors either. I'll order a fuel pump relay and see if that doesn't help. It has thrown up some fuel mixture lean codes every once and a while.

Well, then give us the rest of the info:
Why were the original sensors replaced?
How long ago?
What sensors are in there now? Universal?

Hello there,

Thank you for this thread about the error codes above. I have looked online for the same error codes except instead of p0134, I have p0133 but I still have the same two p1196, p1197 error codes. You mentioned that you found the problem and I would love to discover just what that was. Can you post what happened to your car here? Thank you!
