Thanks, I'll talk to some good shops and see if they can recommend anyone to look at this and quote a repair.

Personally, I used a 2.25" x 4" unit that was 8" overall in length on my ATQ.

As I recall, the shop then cut down the length to fit what they cut out. The diameter you can confirm by measuring before/after the flex with a micrometer to be absolutely certain. Pretty sure it is 55mm which is why I used a 2.25".

I agree 4Driver. Which brings us full circle to Question 1 : how do you find a qualified shop willing to screw with a job like this?

Maybe ask for a mechanics recommendation. Even better you could ask many mechanics and see if there is a common answer. I did this to find a good tire shop (sick of Les Schwab) and it worked out very well!

As for a muffler shop, all I know is never take your car to Midas. Previous owner of our A6 did when his drivers side cat fail and they welded in a aftermarket cat. Their weld job was less than par and now we've got an exhaust leak at the weld seam. To make it worse the hole points up towards the car and not down where it would be easy to fix. A quick fix was to use a hose clamp with some exhaust resistant material to plug up the hole.

Oh yeah, and now we've got a PO411 code (Secondary Air Pump, incorrect flow) being thrown every once in a while. Does anyone think that code could be related to the hole right before the cat? Vacuum lines look OK and secondary air pump was recently replaced.
