I need new front brake pads and the dealer says its necessary to also replace both rotors. What's the current thinking on this?

Default Re: need rotors?

With the advent of non-asbestos pads the wear on the rotors is much higher than it used to be resulting in rotors now being regarded as an (albeit expensive one) consumable item

Default I am looking also...but

someone noted earlier that AWE pulled the zimmerman rotors as an otpion for the 98 A6. Shame too because that is what I was going to get. If anyone has any recommendations I would also like to here them.

Default From what I hear, the issue is whether your 98 is an

early or late build. one or the other will not accept the zimmerman....

Default I reported it I believe...

I was looking at getting the Zimmerman rotors and found out from AWE tuning that they were not certain if they would fit and then removed them from the web page as an option for a '98 A6. I ordered EBC Greenstuff slotted and dimpled rotors and pads from Tirerack.com and had AWE install them. Had to get stock Audi rotors for the rear since noone had anything to fit the back. Very pleased with the performance, feel, price and lack of dust. Not sure how the zimmermans are, but the EBC's are very good for the money.
