Default Need some advice...

I need some advice on my next steps:

I had my Torque converter replaced in Jan08, tranny started leaking again in Jun08, took it back to the mechanic to warranty repair. He pulled out tranny and said TC was not at fault that it was the bolts and washers surrounding the tranny oil pump. He says that will cost $1550 not covered under warranty and that it would fix the leak. I agree to the work he performs work, the day before I pick up the car he calls and says the tranny is still leaking. He says now he wants me to replace some more seals at the tune of $550 (just for the seal kit). He says he still cannot guarantee that they will fix the problem, so I DO NOT agree to the work. He calls me last week and says he is going to warranty the TC (what I originally wanted him to do) and that my car will be ready friday leak or no leak. Keep in mind he has had the car for almost 3 months and tranny is still leaking.

I am assuming he is going to try to charge me for the work performed even though none of it fixed the tranny leak.

Of course I will explain that if you had a leak in your faucet and called a plumber and he quoted you $1550 worked on it for a couple weeks and never fixed the leak, would you pay him? Of course not.

So what are my options here.... I am expecting him to charge me $1550. Do i pay him and file a small claims suit for the $1550 I paid + fees + time lost + gas (his shop is 1.5 hrs from my house) just to get my car back. Call the police?

All advice is greatly appreciated.

TIA

Default Do you have any friends who know a bit about auto boxes? If so get them to go along with you.....

and try to reach a satisfactory resolution. After all, he has done some work towards fixing the leak but he must accept he may have mis-diagnosed the problem and has to cover at least 50% of the cost himself.

If he is reputable he should be willing to discuss it then you can be assured of reliable work if you need to use him again.

Default Fyi, he probably installed the TC incorrectly and broke the pump...

Make sure that the pump is checked

Default The TC was installed in Jan08 and ran just fine...

after talking to ZF they said if the TC was installed wrong it would have immediatly screwed up the gear on the pump. Since it ran good, and still runs fine, just leaks ATF, it leads me to believe the installation was ok. But again I am no expert and this guy definetly isnt going to say that he botched the install and now owes me a new tranny.
