Default New Battery, Oil Change and Balance

Well I went to the Audi Dealer to get my battery replaced. Since its out of warranty, the battery is $285 and $40 for the oil change (mobil 1). They are balancing the tires for free tho. Audi Rep told me that the battery is specially made to fit in the compartment. He said if I had gone to sears, their battery would still work but it would slide in that lil compartment. What you guys think?

Default Ripped off on the battery, oil change was about right.

I got one for $50 locally, it was even an OE style (clear casing) with no print on it. It is the group number that is important, similar to headlights and other bulbs... it doesn't matter what brand as long as it conforms to the standards for size, hold down positions and terminal placement. I actually replaced my 2.8 battery with one that would be in a 4.2, it is about 3" wider and has a higher cca rating.

I think I got ripped off too. My battery cost me $130.

Default That battery sounds ridiculously high. You might do a search on the S4 forum to see what people have

been replacing them with as well.

Good Luck,

Never heard of a proprietary battery size for this car-that sounds fishy

See the rubber seal? grab a corner and gently pull it off, then pull the plastic shroud out.

Default The Battery IS an odd size: shallow & wide (more)..

I got a new battery for my A4, but kept it to be a spare when I sold it and got my A6. Unfortunately, no way will it fit.

Default That may not be out of line....

I haven't shopped it and it should be a bit less, but I could see a new quality battery running $100+ esp. if they charge for installation. I think we paid about $90 installed for a new Interstate in our Passat.
