The M3 fully loaded can reach in the 60 `s but the S4 is its competitor.

Default The going MSRP for a decently equipped M3 is around $62K - and that's the coupe.

The next gen (E90) M3 will offer a V8 in place of the inline 6, and put out around 400hp. RWD only of course. Weight should be in the 3500lb range if they plan on offering a ($100K) CSL version later, so as to give room for some weight savings. The new 330 is around 3300 to 3400lbs.

Price for the new M3 is expected to base at around $65, with options pushing it another $10K higher at least.

The Mercedes C55 AMG sedan starts at $54K and comes with *only* 362hp. The CLK500 AMG coupe starts at $70K.

So in the end, given there will be virtually no options, the 420hp RS4 doesn't seem out of line when you compare it to the competition.

As a newby, I'll defer to those with 10k posts, haha! The S4 is closer in price.

Default Not really comparable cars. The RS6, while certainly quick, is a big fat pig.

So is the RS4 I guess, but to a lessre extent.

They will appeal to quite a different clientele tho.

Default It's not just inflation, but the Euro value against the dollar (currently ~$1.35/Euro). When my...

wife and I went to the Audi Driving Experience in Seefeld, Austria in 2002, the Euro was ~$0.85. With that much gain over the dollar, it's surprising that price of new Audis selling in the US haven't gone thru the roof.
