Default newbie speaker wiring question

i just bought inifinty kappa 60.7 cs for the front of my 99 avant. the tweeters should be fairly simple to hook up since i'm just connecting similar wires. i'm confused with the woofers though. they just hv two metal prongs sticking out from them labeled +W (which i'm assuming just stands for woofer) and -W. do i just solder the existing + and - wires to these metal prongs or do i need a wiring harness of some sort?

Default There are several questions that I have back for you in response..

1- What is your head unit, factory regular or BOSE?

2- Did these seperates come with an external x-over box?

Default Two issues then..

The infinity system is designed to be used off an amp (or direct radio power) to the x-over, and then to the speakers. The x-over sets cut-off points to keep the bass out of the tweeters, and to cut off the bass at a certain frequency to keep it from sounding "muddy".

I am not sure if the factory system you have has an internal x-over to function the same way or with the same settings for the Infinity's.

I would recommend to wire the tweeters and woofers directly, making sure you get the polarity correct ( the +'s and -'s) leaving off the x-over. See how it sounds at low to middle volume before you attempt any higher volumes.

Default That's more complication than I was hoping for... Can you answer this?

I'm using the factory 99 A6 Avant Head Unit so I don't know if it has a built-in x-over or not, but doesn't the fact that it have seperate wires for the tweeter and woofer mean that it has some sort of built-in x-over to seperate the bass from the tweeters? I could be completely wrong, but that was just my newbie assumption looking at the wiring.

Secondly, thinking as a worst-case-scenario, if I hook up the speakers and they end up sounding terrible is there any alternative wiring scheme that would make them work better? If not, what speakers of comparable quality would you recommend to allow for an easier install?

Thanks for your help so far btw.

Default I would hope so...

...the "standard" stereo was a Premium 140 watt 8 speaker setup. This should have entailed some form of internal x-overs built in to the amplifier.

Give it a try first without using the x-over supplied with your speakers.
