NO BRAKES! =) Blew out driver's side brake hose today. That was not fun!

in mild traffic no less, suddenly had a pedal that went to the floor. Was able to limp to my FLAPS, and then home to replace blown out brake hose. Luckily very easy to change!

You are lucky if you could get the piece between the hose and the caliper unscrewed....I just did this on an A4 and had to destroy the nut to get the pieces apart!
Glad you are safe and there were no accidents.

looks like the ole girl began the new year a little moody
Glad to hear things turned out incident free (outside of blowing out the brake hose of course).
Now you will have to explain "FLAPS" lol

Interesting...no dual diagonal brakes, no passenger side front brake to pull hard to the right? No rear brakes other than the hand brake?
Sheesh. Even my old volvos and saabs didn't lose more than one front wheel or both rear wheels if a brake hose failed.

Well, actually it DID retain braking, but only at the very end of the pedal travel. I tried to use them sparingly as to not cause any damage to the master cylinder. Used the hand brake mostly just to save what I had left in case I needed to stop fast.

Thanks Henry! Yeah, it was pretty good timing, considering we had taken a family trip last weekend.. if it happened then, it could have been much worse! All in all, lucky.

Two comments:
1. i presuem the loss of brakes, despite dual-diagonal setup, came from the MC going empty. Minimal hydraulic pressure from MC means minimal pressure on the remainin circuit.
2. This is a good reason to inspect hoses at each bake "job" and replace them when, or before, they look suspect. Furthermore, for the 99% of us that dont replace our hoses each year or two, its a good reason to use only DOT hoses, not the bling coated SS braided stuff that looks cool, but is more susceptible to failure due to abrasion.
