Noise levels in the 2001 Audi A6
I have been reading alot of messages about noise levels in the Audi. On this site, in the model guide, the engineers at Audi indicated that they improved the noise levels by 2 decibels at 140km for the 2002 model. What's the skinny. I am a bit concerned about this. Please advise...I guess I should test drive the car again to see if this is really a problem???

the 2000 2.7t recorded 67dba at a 70 cruise. This was very good
however 65 at 70mph would put it at the top of the class. The 5 series recorded 65, although the A6 tied the 5 for full throttle noise at 73 dba. A 2 dba is not for bats, otherwise car manufacturers would not spend forutnes trying to save 2 dba.

Re: Noise levels in the 2001 Audi A6
I have a 2001 2.7/T. I occasionally notice some wind and tire noise. The wind noise, I think, is primarily from the mirror. The tire noise is from the Conti Contact Sports.
Having said that, it is still a very quiet car. I can easily do 11 hours and still be fresh enough to meet with clients. Noise simply isn't an issue. My Audi is not quite as quiet as a Lexus, but no Lexus drives anywhere near as nicely as my A-6/2.7T and in the end that is what is important.

I agree with you, my A6 is nice and quiet as well, but I don't agree with your comment that no Lexus drives nearly as nice as your Audi 2.7T. Just my 0.02.

No problem with my '01 2.7T. It's a very quiet car. Similar to prior Lexus and Legend.
And, I had an '02 A6 3.0 loaner. It too was quiet, but it didn't seem particularly more so than my '01.
