Not to steal cL's thunder but... I have a typical nOOb question: what's the difference between.....

Quite a bit of money for an extra 60hp...not sure if it's worth it at the moment (especially when...
you consider the fact that I could get 150 more with PES's supercharger unit.) Albeit for 6k, but that is prolly close to what I would have to spend for S6 and S8 goodies....Then again, I could do like baskinblack and just convert to an S8 engine....

For Audi, there is a little thing known as a warranty;-) With the S6, you get not only the engine,
different gearing, suspension, and brakes. Usually just worth buying an S6 rather than messing with all those parts and getting them to work in concert with one another ;-)

Yes, but according to the old model guide info I have, they run different pads. Not sure
if that's correct or not.
Gerry (2251 ) did a good job of listing all the differences one time.<ul><li><a href="https://www.audiworld.com/news/01/naias/conference.shtml">https://www.audiworld.com/news/01/naias/conference.shtml</a</li></ul>

A6 has 3-stage, S6 has 2-stage, RS6 has 1-stage according to this article
Im guessing that the A6 3-stage provides better fuel economy and or drivability over the 2-stage at a slight cost in performance. Just a guess though.
If you go about 15 mph around a turn at mid-throttle you can sometimes feel a dip in power, as if the transmission had shifted gears. But if you check, you will see you're still in the same gear. Im guessing this is when the A6 is switching stages of the runners, based on RPM. I think the 2nd stage in the A6 is made for fuel economy, rather than performance. Anyone can confirm this?<ul><li><a href="http://www.autozine.org/html/Audi/RS6.html">http://www.autozine.org/html/Audi/RS6.html</a</li></ul>
