Default Currently...none! However, <long>

I have been planning all of this past year to install one. I have put around 30 days at the track with my car since going stage III and here's what I have experienced.

To start off with I've always used M1 0w-40. My first track experiences I'd see the oil temps climb up to around 275. Hot, hot, hot. I know the flash point of the oil is aroun 375 so I was not worried about it cooking, but...we know viscosity was falling at those temps. I've been sending my oil into Blackstone labs for the past year and have no poor reports. Oil is alway's in good shape after 6 track days and 3-5k mile driven.

Earlier in 2006 I started pulling my license plate frame off the front of the car for the track. It doesn't seem like it would make much difference...but it made a HUGE difference. Oil temps would stay around 250 and sometimes climb up to 260 when I would just exit the track. If you figure in daily driving the oil temps are around 225/230 or so. 20deg of extra temp isn't really that bad. So I lived with it this year.

Now to the oil coolers. Earlier last year I bought a 34 row setrab oil cooler off ebay. Setrab has a great <a href="http://www.setrabusa.com/ocdims&appassist.pdf">technical chart</a> that recommends oil coolers based on HP in the vehicle. Based on my 450+ rated HP it recommends a 34 row cooler. But when I started looking at putting that in the car...over half of the cooler was going to be behind the bumper rendering it less than effective. With removal of the license plate frame and lower temps I ended up not getting around to installation.

In October I was at the SCCA runnoffs at heartland park almost everyday. One of the vendors there had a very extensive collection of setrab coolers and we test fit a bunch of them until deciding on one. I ended up with a smaller capacity unit that will fit perfectly behind the lower grill down out of the way.

It is a 5" x 12.5" oil cooler part number 50-915-7612, 915M22i. I will be fashioning a mouting bracket in front of the radiator housing to mount it down low. I have yet to install and plan to do it before track season this year (by end of feb).

Of course I'll be installing a temp controlled adapter plate and using the smaller prolator filters as there will not be enough room for both.

On that subject...I know some people just get rid of the water cooler and connect the two coolant lines back to each other. But that serves to warm oil in winter just as it cools oil in summer. So I'm going to leave that on.

The biggest concern I have will be how to drain oil out of it as the orientation will not allow oil to drain out during an oil change. I could have added a one-way valve and oriented it differently. I'm hoping to create a quick release so I can raise it and drain out the oil.

Anyway, sorry for the long post but I wanted to give a response other than "none". I'll make sure and do a technical write up as I do the install. I'm planning to replace my timing belt and will do the work when the bumper is off.

Cheers!

Default Great...some additional thoughts

The oil cooler was around $140, the adapter plate should be $130 or so. Hoses and connectors another $100. So for less $400 you should have a very effective solution. I'll probably use some stock aluminum strips to fashion a mounting bracket. Again...if you can wait, give me a month or so for a procedure.

Did you mean to link back to my post in your message?

Sorry for the bunch of typo's in my post. I think I fixed them. (wrote it in a hurry between meetings.)

Default Ahhh...Robert's post! I remember that one and why I didn't get that ECS kit.

I know there will be some installation challenges, but it should be worth it.

Oh...and don't forget to pull that stupid license plate frame off the car at the track.

Default let us know. been waiting for a solution.

Yep my Oil temps are in the 270 range at the track on hot days 90's and above. Run 0W-40 M1.
Plus the water temp was 1 tick or more past the middle- stock intercoolers.

I lose alot of power on the straights, plus with the heat soak, it can be sporty coming out of a turn with little runoff.

Thanks for doing this.
