Tough to research track records of attorneys
The firm I chose was founded by the son of someone I know. Through Virginia Bar conferences, I found out that this firm had a strong reputation. For example, someone got a ticket for blowing through the red flashing lights of a school bus. The law in Virginia used to define a scool bus as having lettering at least 8". The bus in question had letters only 6" and the case was thrown out because of the creativity of the firm, and arguing that the statute was not violated because the bus did not have the right size lettering.
I practice patent law, and don't follow local firms or issues. However, I could call the firm my wife used, and they could probably recommend someone good in Loudon. Anybody can practice traffic law, so you only want to go with a firm that has a solid reputation. Also, just as important as picking the right firm is making sure that the attorney who will appear in court is someone who is respected, experienced, and has some familiarity with the prosecutor's office.

You can try this attorney in Fairfax...
James (Jim) Bitner, law office of George Bitner (have to check his no. in the phone book).
He is a former Fairfax Co. prosecutor, he handled a transactional matter for me and I was impressed, I wouldn't hesitate to call him for a traffic matter (he does criminal & traffic work, too).
