Default My 4.2 (what DH Press mentioned) takes 8 on the nose

From doing it many times over, assuming filter changed too. Mine is a 2000 vintage with the earlier ART motor. I fully expect 2.7's are different, as would be 2.8's.

Default I don't think I would go here.

Factory says 5-40. We know Mobil 1's higher quality spec is only on the 0-40, not the 0-30 or the 5-30. If you go on the Mobil site and look at the flow spects at low temps, any of these has great flow compared to mineral types.

Having said all that, I have gone back toward 5 40, using Valvoline. I have an oil burning issue, apparently in stem seals but my first foray wasn't fully successful. 5-40 definitely burns less than 0-40 (either Mobil or Pentosin) from real world experience. At higher mileages it starts to matter--I will sacrifice a tiny bit of mileage for less smoke, less plug fouling and less converter damage. Still need to fix the problem of course.

Default I used 5W30 (blue cap) in my biturbo S4

when I sold it at 80k the turbos were quiet as mice, and the car used less than 1/4 quart between 5-6k oil changes.

Draw your own conclusions.

I use 0W40 now to ensure absolute compliance with any warranty issues.

Default My S6 4.2 takes 8 quarts of very expensive Amsoil with filter change...

Geez, Amsoil 10w40 Euro went from very expensive ($7.10) to uber expensive ($8.95). Adds up when you need 15 quarts between my two German cars.
