How much do you pay for 4.2 liter oil filters? I see Bosch for $23. That a good deal?

Default I use this system on my boat, and there's a couple of potential problems....

First, you're never sure that the end of the tube is really at the bottom. If you insert a little more tube than necessary, it will tend to curve up so that the tube end is off the bottom (especially if the tube has a curve in the first place). And believe me, it can be difficult to tell even when it actually touches the bottom, much less when it's curving up.
Second, if the end of the tube is touching the bottom perfectly, with the tube vertical the the opening flat on the bottom it won't suck at all; the end of the tube _has_ to be off the bottom.
Third, the bottom of the pan directly under the dipstick tube, where the end of the tube theorectically should be located, may not be the lowest part of the pan. In a perfect world, the end of the tube would be at the drain plug.
All of which makes me wonder how sucking out an oil pan could yield more oil than draining it?

Default Always wondered if the equivalent of 'flush and fill' would have value for oil...

.. expressly for the purpose of forcing all the loose junk out of the motor.

Default Yep . . .

I've been doing that for years, works just fine. If you're a minimalist, you can use a simple pump and dump the oil directly into the container you're going to use for recycling. Also, knowing the anatomy of your engine block / oil pan helps too.

https://forums.audiworld.com/a6/msgs/88494.phtml
