Oil Re-fill on 2.7T

After putting Mobil 1 (0-30W) + oil filter about 300 miles ago, I had to put another 4 oz. or 250ml of oil to fill it back up. I fill it up just shy of the top of the cross hatched region on the dip stick. This is to get maximum heat dissipation with above normal oil level, but not too much that its over filled.
Any experience with this type of behavior of oil consumption?

During the breakin, 1200miles/quart is very good. Later than that it isn't so good. The top of the crosshatch area is the max fill line, right? If you are really filling up past the max fill line (which is what your message implies), then you are making a mistake.
Putting more oil in a car (as opposed to redesigning it) just puts more in the crankcase. That can act as a heat sink, bit it won't help heat dissipation.
Don't worry about your car overheating. Audi knows a thing or two about engines, unless you take it to the track, it won't overheat due to low oil, even if it gets a quart down from the fill mark.

Another concern with over filling is that the crank can start splashing into the oil in the crankcase. This results in additional load on the engine that increase fuel usage and means that power the would normally go to the drive train instead is used to overcome the additional resistance the crank encounters splashing through.
I have also heard that overfilling can result in oil being drawn into the intake tract and consequently being burned during the combustion process.

I am filling the oil up just beyond, half of the cross hatched region. So about 3/4 of the cross hatched region. Since its consuming oil, its better to have a little more the less.
Also, when I checked the oil after driving the car (warm engine), the indicator shows the oil level in the lower 1/4 of the cross hatched region. But letting it sit for a few hours (cold engine), raised the oil level to about 1/2 way. This is due to the oil still covering the upper parts that hasn't yet made its way to the oil pan. So checking the oil level with the warm engine is probably not a good idea.

Oil level anywhere in the hash area is good. Oil can be added to where the level is above the hash, but it must stay below the bulge. If the level is below the hash, oil must be added.

If you check while warm, be sure to wait a while for the oil to run back down to the crankcase. This is why you see the oil level low when warm, and then it rises later.

After 30 mins, I can see a change in oil level, but very minor. After a few hours, is about the time you see a significant change. After 4 hours it seems to level out.
