One of the fellow members has offered me a decent deal on 18" wheels and tires he pulled off his car.
I was looking originally for 17". The roads here on vancouver Island leave a lot to be desired so I am concerned about damage. I also do not want a harsh ride. Comments please?
Also, my wineglasses have a 35 offset. Offest from what? What happens if I put a 45mm offest on?
Thanks a usual gang, Bruce

and I've been very happy. I can't speak to the 18s from personal experience, but I've been really impressed with the improvement in my handling and stability with the move from 16s to 17s. When I bought them I was trying to decide between 17s and 18s, but the guys at Ronal wheels suggested that I go with 17s--in spite of the fact that it would have made them a few hundred more bucks if I'd gone with 18s. He said I'd notice no real difference in handling and would get a slightly harsher ride, more weight, and higher likelihood of damage. That said, if the 18s are a good deal, I might still go for them...they look awesome!

I had 16 and 17 on my 2000 2.7t and 17 and 18 on my 2001. I never bent a rim or damaged a tire but I keep the tires inflated to a fairly high 42-44psi pressure. I haven't really noticed much difference between the 17 and 18 with ride but handling improved dramtically between the 16 and larger wheels, although this may have been largely due to the tire being much better.

for my car mainly due to cost of the wheels and tires, and the limited availability of the Avus wheels I desired. FYI - the offset should be okay, since I am assuming that you have a non-2.7T anyway with the Wineglass wheels. 2.7Ts require a larger offset because of the size of the brake calipers. Anything less than ET45 (maybe ET43) will not clear the calipers, but again, not an issue for you.
If you can get the 18's for a good price from your buddy, and you are comfortable with the cost of replacement tires, and you are not in an area riddled with potholes, go with the 18's. They look awfully sharp on the A6.
Happy hunting! Post pictures when you are done upgrading your wheels!
