Default Ok...another thread on side-impact airbags...I will absolutely get them...and...

absolutely have them with any age kid at any time in the back seat...abso-fuggin-lutely...

Watching that side-impact stuff on Dateline (or whatever) last night made it crystal clear in my mind that under NO circumstances would I ever have a kid of mine (or anyone elses) in the back seat of my vehicle without both side-impact and head-curtain airbags.

I don't give a rat sh*t about the bs about whether a kid is sleeping back there with his head against the door or c-pillar. Since these events happen RANDOMLY...and I suspect that absolutely NO kid keeps his head against the door/pillar > 50% of the time, it is absolutely clear that it is safer to have the bags than to not have the bags. Law of averages will favor the airbag helping rather than potentially hurting. AFAIK to this date no kid has ever been seriously injured by a side airbag in the rear of a vehicle...but lots of kids are injured by t-bone accidents.

Just thought I'd bring up this well-beaten topic...although I believe some people come to the incorrect conclusion about the safety of these side airbags...
After watching those dummies heads slamming against the pillar/door and barrier sled from 31 mph crashes...there is no doubt in my mind that the side airbag is safer in ALL situations. I would rather have the airbag explode even if the kid's head was against the door...it may push the kid's head out away from the door...vs. guaranteed smashing the kid's head against the door without the bag.

My S6 rear bags will remain activated...never to be turned off. And my next vehicle will have side airbags...although the curtain airbag on Audis and VWs may suffice until I have kids or carry people back there.

Not trying to flame those who believe the airbags may be unsafe...just hoping some will reconsider their position...and really I wish the government would mandate side airbags front and rear, plus head curtain airbags...in addition to the obviously already mandated front airbags.

I also wish the damn Insurance Institute would test these things with a kid's head against the door...just to make it more obvious!

Soooo...what's your position on this issue? BTW, I agree. Also, FWIW, I like nyc.turbo's grille mod.

Default One of the reasons Ray is driving the A6, and not something else.

Selling points when getting WAF (wife approval factor) for buying the A8:

"Honey, the A6 is 3800 pounds, and it's solid as a rock. It's not at all overpowered. It has full-time AWD for wet weather stability, xenons for night time visibility, and, God forbid you ever need'em, the car has 6 airbags. I'd put it up against any similar Volvo for safety. It's a worth a little more than we were planning on spending, but it's worth it."

"OK, you can get the A8."

And Ray got the A6 ;-)

Default Disconnected rear side airbag... why?

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/54412/picture_017_custom.jpg"></center><p>
I have (2002 A6 4.2L) with "Rear Side Airbag" (added option on the car) and "sideguard curtain airbags" (standard) installed. I have this car as 2nd owner so i have no history on it but my rear side airbag is "disconnected". Pls see the picture. Does anyone know why it's disconnected? Can it be connected? If so, do i have to go to the dealer??

Previous owner probably had the dealer disconnect them...I would have them reconnected!

Default I am glad my wife's A6 has 6 bags, I wish my car had more than just the 2 front ones!....

That's why the baby seat is in the Avant (in addition to the fact that it has more room and my wife refuses to drive my car since it is a stick).

maybe but very strange, since it's an option you add. So they added this option, only to disable it???

MBR, you should buy my A6, then you'd have 6 air bags too.

Default Yeah, my mind's been "raging" about this since last night...

it annoys the sh*t outta me that for a couple hundred $$$, automakers don't make them standard. Even the cheapest sh*tboxes (Kias) could handle a $300-500 price increase...which would probably be less if they made them standard, they'd buy more, the price would drop.

Could've been bought off the lot configured that way. It's very easy to re-enable (at the dealer).
