Default Re: It's a 3 spoke tip steering wheel? do you have a 4 spoke wheel now? You doing the install?

It's a four spoke tiptronic wheel from an S-Line, to replace my standard 4 spoke. Sounds funny, but, I don't actually like the 3 spoke all that much. Yes I'm gonna attempt the install, so if I am not around for a while you know that I had airbag problems (that's gonna hurt in the face).

Default you might have to get a new cancelling ring, one that supports tip controlls.. You..

will also have to splice into the tranny wiring harness, and run those wire up the steering column to the back of the cancelling ring. There is an adapter you will need that connnect these wires to the cancelling ring.

I installed a RS6 steeing wheel on my A6. Your in for some fun.. lol

Good luck!

Default This is only the beginning! :)))

I think I said several time that I was "done" with mods, but before the keyboard cooled down, BAM! Something else caught my eye, and Big Brown was on its way to my home...again.

You got a pretty good deal on the RS4 mirrors. You do not have to replace the whole unit, just the covers themselves. Then you can sell the rest of the parts if you want, unless you want them as spares. Just make sure you got the right ones...I have seen some RS4 mirrors that were actually S4 (B6) mirrors that are not compatible with the A6. You would know from the shape. S4 (B6) mirrors taper towrd the outside, and are a bit more "angular" than the RS4/RS6 mirrors.

For comparison, go to the website link below for Epimporters. This page shows both the S4 mirrors for both the B5 and B6 platform. The B5 is the same shape as our A6 mirrors. Oh, and you can see the smokin' deal you got on yours compared o the prices listed here (although the RS4 mirror link is dead). Those prices are for EACH housing, with no electrical or glass.

mirrors at Epimporters.com

Default If you have radio controls now...

then to install a...

-Tip only steering wheel: install per tech section instructions.

-Tip and audio steering wheel: install wheel and new steering wheel control unit (4B0 907 487L pre-CAN or 4B0 907 487F CAN enabled). No rewiring necessary.

Default If you have radio controls, but no tip wheel controls, how much/difficult to upgrade to radio + tip?

I've been considering an '02 only as its the only year to offer 'everything' - the tip wheel controls are very important IMO, so if it could be retrofitted that would be very interesting - at least to know how much $ to do it...

Default In this case you'd need the new steering wheel, airbag, and new control unit

Steering wheel and airbag you may find for ~400 on ebay. I have seen them from time to time.

Steering wheel control unit is $300 new from Audi, have not found one in any salvage yard to date. See my reply above for part numbers.

You will not need a new self-cancelling ring and you will not need to rewire anything.
