Default Okay, Finman. If you want to say "I told you so" . . .

I won't be upset. "Do it yourself" oil changes on the S6 are a pain in the ***. Well, maybe not that bad, but probably the worst vehicle for oil change do it yourselfers I've worked on.

Oil drain piece of cake. (I learned my lesson on the drain pan size when I went to drain my 9.3 qt Porsche into a 10 qt pan -- it fits, but then try to move it! I found a great 5 GALLON pan at Wal Mart, w/ a sealable pour spout -- works great.) What I didn't like was dealing w/ the plastic belly pan and the filter. Jeez, I doubt Audi could have put the filter in any tighter spot w/o requiring major disassembly of some other component.

Will I do it again? Probably once a year between the 10k changes the dealer does. (Plan on changing the oil -- Mobil 1 0-40W -- and filter every 5k miles.) Hopefully, it'll be easier next time.

If anyone wants more specifics, including torque specs on the filter and drain plug, let me know.

Andy

Default haha torque specs from the factory monkeys is put it on so it won't come off!

Belly pan with 3 different fasteners is a PITA but not hard, just makes you lay under there and wonder "WTF"

Default The plastic pan doesn't bother me much...but that filter sucks...

seems the dealer and the factory use the "as tight as humanly possible" method of tightening the filter...I use the "Finman-tight" method...and I've never had oil leakage in any of my cars over the last 18 years...I use the same method for the drain plug.

I definitely need a more accepting drain pan...my 12 qt pan overflows at the rate at which the oil drains

Hope you had fun!

Default I tried the normal method but oil was leaking.. Possibly

If I left it alone, the first time the engine heated up, might of caused the filter to seal correctly.. <shrug>

I think Finman is 60-100 miles from a dealer, Plus cars can't sue for malpractice ;-)

Default Because it takes 1-2 days for the dealer to do it!

Big pain in the ***...1 1/2 - 2 hours to get there...drive back in the POS loaner/rental...then drive back either later that day (they close at 6!) or the next day...so the total price would be...

$120 for dealer to change oil ($40 filter, $35 oil, $35 labor (est.))
$8 tolls
$24 gas (12 gallons at $1.999/gal)
$12-$24 (loaner/rental upgrade at $10/day + tax)

=$164-$176 plus 6 hours driving time!

or spend $75 to change oil myself...waste 1 1/2 - 2 hours total and never have to drive the POS loaner/rental.

Easy choice.

Default I think the S6 likes the Mobil 1 0w-40 just fine...

...but I let my dealer do it.
