Default One potential drawback to Michelin Pilot Sport A/S's: quicker wear than anticipated.

We've had the A/S's on the Avant and its predecessor 2.7 for about 16,500 miles. Just took the car in to have them rotated and balanced (which I do roughly every 5,000 miles) and the tires currently on the front had 7/32" tread left, but the tire on the back had 4/32" tread (5/32" in one instance). Why the ones currently on the back wore so much more quickly than the ones on the front is a good question, since I have been rotating the tires. Anyway, with an original tread depth of 10/32," that means the tires on the back have gone through about 75% of their useful life, if they were driven down to 2/32" of tread left, which equates to roughly 22,000 miles between tire purchase. Of course, with the wear on the fronts, the tires would last roughly 40,000 miles.

The good---and unexpected, I might add---news is that the NTB where I purchased the tires called Michelin, without my having raised any kind of fuss about the mileage, and Michelin is going to comp me four new tires at roughly 50% off, due to premature tire wear.

The tires have a 400 rating, while regular Pilot Sports have a 220, so the A/S's theoretically should last almost twice as long as the regular Pilot Sports. What kind of mileage have any of you with regular Pilot Sports or A/S's been getting?

Default Get the alignment checked (and NOT at NTB).

Just bring it to your dealer...they should allow one alignment per year under warranty.

I had a similar issue with my A4...rear tires were wearing at 2-3 times the rate of the fronts. By the time I did a tire rototion and became aware of the issue, the rears were gone. It looked like someone had shaved the tread right off the car. In the end, it turned out that my rear alignment was waaaaay off, resulting in the odd wear. So, before you get too far with the new tires, you may want to verify that your alignment didn't cause the issue.

Default Already had the alignment checked at the Audi dealership, and it didn't show any major problems.

They tweaked the front, but the back end was supposedly just fine.

Default My experience is the complete opposite

I previously ran Dunlop SP5000's (235/45-17) and only got 15,000 miles. I switched to Pilot A/S's and currently have over 20,000 miles on them with 50% wear. I anticipate getting 35,000-45,000 miles out of them. I also had my alignment checked at my dealership and they screwed it up. I'm going back to my alignment shop to fix their problem.

Default My experience also told me that Michelins usually last quite a lot longer than others in the same cl

class.

I had MXV4 on my old Legend that ran almost 45,000 miles while the Dunlop D2 only lasted 25,000 and the Yokahoma AVID 4 only last 20,000.

The Pilots on my friends' M3 lasted 30,000 while while his new S-03's are getting closed to replacement after only 18,000

Default I've had Michelins (MXV4's) that wore very well. I am surprised that NTB took that step.

The experience that I have had with one of their outlets (DC area) is "you must be driving very hard" sorry, not covered...can I sell you another set.
