I hear olive oil added to the engine helps with your clear coat complexion

Default Nice article, but they don't have any tests showing that Slick 50 is actually bad

Good job of pointing out the fact that we should not just accept manufacturer hype, but what they really should have done is conducted their own independent tests. As it is, there are no good studies directly on point.

Re: I agree, why add anything? What is it that your oil isn't doing?

Default I'd guess it's the use of synthetics>>>

alone that is giving you the good results.
I'll be putting Mobil 1 in my newly aquired A6. For years I've used Mobil 1 in my vehicles with 10-12 thousand mile changes (filters every 5 or so).
My experiences...
1987 Saab SPG @17psi boost, 245K miles with original turbo.
1988Chevy K2500 pick-up. At 195K still at factory compression specs.
1986 BMW 635 Twin Turbo@20psi with over 400lb/ft at the wheels... 40K in that configuration with a "junk" engine.
Currently I have 140K on my Jeep TJ with perfect compression.
I'll be doing the same with the oil in the A6 and in current BMW turbo project.

Waste of money. If you're using an oil that meets the VW 502.00 std, then you need nothing else.

Additives have not proven they help, and some data suggests they harm.

it......?
