Default opinions on price for A6 4.2

Laurel Audi has a leftover 2001 A6 4.2 with 17" 8 spoke alloys and prem. pkg. It is new ( under 100 miles) and they are asking $47,000. They say it was $52,000 plus retail.

Given that it is last years model, what do you all think would be a good price to offer them?

Default Ask to see the dealer invoice and offer them $1000 less...

That would be a good place to start. Retail is almost irrelevant and I wouldn't pay over their cost. Good luck!

Even that seems high for starting negotiation... invoice may be $47. Start at $45 and wait.

Default Look up what a 2001 A6 with 100 miles would be worth retail, then use the depreciation amount

to justify you bid. I would not settle on a bid until you knew that piece of information. For example, edmnds TMW suggests that you should get 1500-2000 off sticker if it was a new 2002, see what the whole sale and retail value of the car is and then make an offer based on the fact that it is still new. For example, if retail price on a 2001 A6 4.2 with the options listed and <100 miles would be 43,000 (just guessing here, you need to look it up on Edmunds site) then 45,000 seems reasonable to bid for the car. If it is higher, than the 47,000 might be good, if it is lower, then you might want to reconsider the purchase and go for a 02. If you like the 01 better in terms no rings ont he dials and no tail pipes, then you need to make a decision. If you prefer the 02 styling cues, then that may help as well.
