I hope it does. I hope your M5 can beat the new RS6. BMWs are fine cars.

Default Good point. I wonder if the defection of the 'appearance driven BMW owner/prospect' will harm Audi?

It will be sad if this car becomes a 'superficial' status symbol. I like the 'sleeper/unknown' factors of our cars.

It will be very sad if the quality of the craftsmanship is brought down a notch or two so as to appease to the non-enthusiast's eye. The reason why I went from my '85 325e was because the 2000 BMW 3 series did not reflect a 15 year leap/improvement in the design and passion of the car. Among the fact that in NorCal you can't go a block without running into one.

Careful what you wish for- when I joined this board in Dec '99, I remember reading posts about why Audi didn't get the respect and recognition that it deserved- looks like we're entering the other side of the spectrum. Bitter sweet.

Default Well . . .

not to shock anyone, but, who cares? They will both be wonderful rides! If my car's .2 seconds faster to 60 so what? There are any number of Porsches, Ferraris, etc. that can claim that and more, so what? If YOU don't have just as much class stepping out of a 1978 Cadillac junker as you do stepping out of an M5 or RS6, sorry mister, the car won't save you anyway. IMHO, the only relevant question is how do YOU like driving it? If your answer is: I love it. That's all you need to know.

Oh, in the list of reasons the M5 will be faster, don't forget to add the extra drivetrain loss from quattro.

You know that Audi is going to have to make an even faster car.

Default As accurate as all your points are, IF the RS6 was faster than the M5, it would create all sorts of

marketing hype in favor of Audi.

The magazines would eat it up as they proclaimed the current 4-door King of the Hill had been knocked off its pedestal by Audi. The Audi name would gain all sorts of new-found respect from those who wouldn't normally give the name a second look. Audi sales would skyrocket, creating many new Audi dealerships available for sales and service. 2.7tdallas would get a real date (a girl this time) and I would leave this forum because, "I'm not worthy"! :-)

You'd think/hope so, but so far the "S" versions have been only so-so for all the hoopla.
