Default OT - New S8 at dealer

Saw a gorgeous black/black S8 yesterday in the showroom. Tip, of course. Watta car!! Sticker is $72k, plus a flat $20k added dealer markup. It's probably a bargain at $72, but at over $90???? But, it sure is beoootiful.

They have one at Commonwealth. Talk to Drew. No mark-up crap.

Default $50k Mark-up for M5!!! For S8 several places available at MSRP, straight...

I was offered a "discount" off MSRP since I bought a 4.2 from them a few months ago and the black S8 was sitting there for weeks. Although tempted, I don't have the jack ($78k) and it doesn't fit my needs. Oh, but to dream
$10k mark-up is nothing---I was at a BMW dealer yesterday in Concord and they had 2 M5s, both "spoken for" with mark-ups of $49,999, bringing the final price to a mere $128,000. Quite a bargain!
They also had $2k-8k markups on 740i and 740iLs. They are nuts. Let's see: $72-$75k for an S8 or $80k for a common 740iL...Hmmmm, which one would I want? They are sick in the head!

Default You get what you pay for... BTW-

I'm not sure where you're getting these figures from... 2000 M5 owners with less than <12k miles are having trouble selling their cars for the mid $60k's on the Bimmer board and this is in the Bay area where these cars are hot... New ones go for MSRP..

2001 740i/iLs are being dumped at or near invoice in anticipation for the redesigned model coming in fall..

Had I decided to buy a 5-series instead of an A6, around here, I'd get first class treatment at the local dealers like Wide World cars, or Westchester BMW.. Wide World gives 528i's as loaners regardless of what BMW you drive, even if it's a clunker that's 15 yrs old... In the 8 yrs I owned mine, I walked in to 3 different dealers for 3 different recall notices that were handled promptly while I waited, and got prompt roadside assistance through a BMW technician when I had flats.. Audi is BS, they subcontract AAA, and took 6 months to replace my faulty fuel gauge after I got the recall notice... But then again I saved about $6-7k on an A6 Avant over a comparable 528i wagon, plus I have quattro so I'm not complaining, plus the A6 is plenty good enough... The extra $6-$7k goes a long way for me...

Default The figures are from a visit to Concord BMW, Friday in Concord,CA...

I was very surprised, particularly the mark-up on the 740i and 740iL. The X5s had markups of $3k for the 6cyl and $8k for the 8cyl. The $49,999 markup ("market value") is right on the window of the M5s, both with "spoken for" cards. I don't know if these guys paid the extra A6 4.2, just for the priveledge, but if they did, they have a lot of extra jack. The window sticker leads one to believe they did, but I did not see the contracts.

Mark-up is sometimes used just to give a little bargaining space.

Default I understand that, but when sales are slower than usual, the mark-up just pisses people off and...

makes them look elsewhere. $50k though, is a bit much, even for the "priveledge" of owning an M5. Some mark-up on an M5 seems OK, but even if someone is willing to pay it, anything over, say $10k is purely insulting. Similar to someone offering a dealer $3-5k under invoice for a slow selling model, just to take it off their hands.

It is an insult. I always hated it. Created a barrier. Can understand why though.
