Oxygen sensors on 1996 A6

Since I purchased the car in late January, I've had the Oxygen sensor replace two times in two months. The first time, I paid for the replacement. About two weeks later, the 'check engine' light came on again...and when I took the car back to the Exchage in Highland Park, IL...again it was the O2 sensor. This was replaced at no charge. It just happened again over this weekend. Is there something wrong with what the dealer is doing? should they be looking for a reason why this is occuring? Could they be using defective O2 senors? Any ideas???

Probably something in the exhaust... a leak in the headers pre-O2s, or maybe something in the fuel system... I've heard of many cases where new O2s didn't correct the MIL.

There's a host of reasons for the light. Do a search on this forum - vacuum leaks, loose gas cap, carbon deposits and on and on. In my case they replaced a couple of coils and spark plugs first but it took decarbonizing to finally resolve it after about 5 dealer visits. At least they claim that was the final thing they did, although I am not convined they didn't find a vacuum hose leaking as well.
Good luck - can be a real PITA to resolve it. At least if it's not flashing, there's no need to panic and rush to the dealer.
