Default Panasonic CD Changer

A local & respectable audio dealer in my area has informed me that a Panasonic 6 or 8 disc changer is available for my '00 2.7T. With labor, the price for the adapter & miscellaneous parts and the changer itself; the complete package will run about $350.00 installed. This of course makes the OEM option quite an expensive one. Comments anyone? I also heard from another source that there may be an Alpine unit that is compatible. Needless to say that none of these options are RF.

Default Re: Panasonic CD Changer

I have the 8 disc Panasonic changer (cx-dp88u) with the Blitzsafe AudiPan DMX v.2 adapter. It works great. With the Blitzsafe DMX v.2 adapter I even have easy access to all 8 discs and the random function. Mounting it is the only tricky part. It will not fit in the OEM Changer slot, but I was able to mount the it just below that slot. My total cost was around $200 ($150 for the changer and $50 for the adapter). I got the changer on-line (don't remember where) and the adapter from audiosecurity.com.

Default Autotoys 8-disc changer for $199

The changer comes with an adapter and tax and shipping is included. I'm certain there will be replies to this saying either, "it's not an OEM changer" or "but you can't get to the 7th and 8th disks directly". My answers are "so what" and "it depends on what wheel buttons you have". I installed this changer in my 2000 2.7T and have had no problems with it. Love it (especially for the price). If it gives you piece of mind to pay $100 extra for an OEM version, then that's what you do. As for the direct access if you have the wheel with the useless phone buttons on it, then it is correct to say that there is no direct access to the 7th and 8th disks. If you don't put in a 7th and 8th disks though, don't you have a 6-disk changer for $199? Furthur, if you have the same wheel I do with the "" buttons on the bottom, then you can directly access the 7th and 8th disks.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks "rwish". I have the same model year that you have and I really couldn't care less about not having DIRECT access to the 7th and 8th discs. Just as long as I have access to them is more than sufficient. Pertaining to the buttons you mentioned, I have the buttons that are approximately at the 8 and 4 O'clock positions with an up and down arrow on both sides.

Default Here's a pic of my wheel

If you look at the picture (it was for another post on the servotronic relay mod I made), you can see the buttons on the left hand side of the wheel. The one on the bottom is the "<" which will back up to the previous disk. On the right side of the wheel is its twin to skip to the next disk. If you have these two buttons, you're set and can easily skip to the 7th and 8th disks. If your wheel doesn't look like this, I'm afraid you're out of luck and the 7th and 8th slots aren't that useful. Even so, in the case where you don't have those buttons, just don't load those slots then and you still have the 6-disk changer for $199. It comes with the adapter (built into the price) that plugs directly into the one in your trunk. The only downside that I've seen is that the 8-disk sold by Autotoys doesn't fit in the bracket, it's a little narrower. I took out the bracket out of the car, drilled a few holes in it to suit my need and was able to mount with ease. Unless your a Melvin with tools, it really is quite simple.
