Apparently dirt/sand can get under the guard and scratch the paint. I ordered some of the clear 3M material from Groits to put on under the guards.
I'm in the same boat as you here in New England--allot of towns in NH use sand instead of salt and it is usually full of small rocks. With the 235 tires on et35 8" rims I get allot of splash back behind the wheels so I'm putting the guards on for the winter and off in the spring.

Thx for the pictures.. I think I'll do it for the winter months.
(Hey Chuck, I do kind of agree they look a bit wierd, but they are very practical when you live the wrong end of essentially a farm track...)
