Check your facts! NHTSA seems to disagree with you! AND THAT IS THEIR OPINION!

Hey Jack, pull your head out of your A$$. look at the following stats for breaking....
Vehicle 60-0 mph Slalom
Audi A6 2.7t 127 feet 61.9
BMW X5 (Chuck) 123 feet 60.1
Explorer 120 57.9
C320 114 64.1
RX300 130 58.9
Escalade 132 56.7
Z06 103 67.6
Look it over, 2 SUVs stopped quicker than the Audi. The heaviest, Escalade was a whopping 5 feet longer!!!! Big whoop! SUVs competed well in the slalom too.
don't give me your "SUVs don't brake, dont go where you point them crap!"
And my Audi 4.2 is rated at 17 in the city, GMC Envoy is 16 and Escalade is 12. So not all SUVs are using up the fossil fuels as you say. All of us are using it up with all our trips everyone and running all the kids to their activities.
As far as pollution, yea, they give off more. So Do lawnmowers and dirtbikes, etc. So you better not do any of these things also.
We could argue all day about this. Don't stereotype SUV drivers Jack. You don't want to be sterotyped b/c of your choice. People drive SUV mainly for cargo and passengers, try to fit all you could in a Escalade or Denali XL in your Audi. Not a chance.

It is very simple statistic with lots of underlying factors
The heavy the vehicle, the lower the death rate per passanger mile. However:
1. The lighter the vehicle, the more likely to have a younger driver, the heavier, the older.
2. The heavier the vehicle, the more likly to have seatbelts on.
3. The younger the driver, the more likely to drink and drive.
4. Roll overs are a very small % of traffic fatalities.
5. SUV's are much more likely to roll over, but much less likely to be in an accident in the first place, so the fatalities per vehicle mile are much lower, the the fatalaties per passanger mile are much much lower as the tend to carry more people.

your original theory applied one set of parameters to one group and a different to other group...
completely un-scientific. Last time I checked, I can get as many people in my A6 as one can get in to a Grand Cherokee, Explorer, Trailblazer etc...

Actualy - it is the greenie car haters that are pushing against the SUV's so hard, which is
very ironic, as it will **** off the soccer mom and suburban swing vote, pushing them back towards republicans, which will swing the government slighlty right, which will make it much less likely to have thier greenie environmental stuff passed. Idiots!!! If they want to really cut down on emmisions, they should set up roeadside stands just to check everyones tire pressure for free. Do 100,000 cars a month and you would save more gas that way
