Default Please help to advise how the oxygen sensors went bad after the rear end crash.

Hello,
My 2000 A6 C5(2.7T, Automatic transmission) was recently crashed by the other car at the rear end. The bumper and left exhaust got damage and also the engine light came on right after the crash.

I did the scan myself and there are 4 faults found as shown below.
17539 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor; B2 S1: Internal Resistance too High
P1131 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
17526 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor Heating; B1 S2: Open Circuit
P1118 - 35-00 - -
17522 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor; B1 S2: Internal Resistance too High
P1114 - 35-00 - -
16524 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor B1 S2: No Activity
P0140 - 35-00 - -

The insurance had the local shop replaced the bumper and exhaust without a question. The shop also did the scan and found the same code. However, the shop said they can't replace the O2 sensors because they are unrelated to the rear end crash.

Could anybody please help to suggest if it is possible that the O2 went bad from the accident or it is just a coincident.

Most likely a result of the impact - the sensors get dammaged as the exhaust gets shmooshed

Unclear what the story is without knowing how much of the exhaust was replaced.

I'm going to guess that Bank 1 sensor 2 is unplugged. I bet they managed to unplug it when changing the exhaust. The other sensor is probably not related unless the cats were replaced. If the cats were replaced, the shop damaged the sensor.

Hi LIRS6,
Thank for fast response for my first post in this board.

I tried to tell them that but they still refuse to fix it. They did try clear the code but it came back on again.

If I take the car back and bring it to audi dealership or other audi shop, will they be able to give a confirmation that the O2 was bad from the crash so that the insurance will take care to replace it?

Any suggestion, please let me know.

Hi 4Driver4,

Thank for the comment.

I do not have an answer for your question about how much of the exhaust was replaced since I have not seen the repair list yet.

As far as I know I don't think the shop damage it as the engine light turn on right after the crash. (My car has never got an engine light turn on until I started the car after the crash.)

I am going to check my car and let you know.
