Default please help with some vwtool problems

I borrowed a cable and vwtool from a fellow forum member. I can get a connection when I go to the engine module, but when I tried to reprogram the locks, I kept getting a "trying to re-establish connection" error. I let it try for over 10 minutes, but no luck. Any ideas?

Also, does anyone have the correct procedure for throttle adaptation? (search is dead, long live the search)

BTW, I am using win2k and my car is a 2.7T. Thanks.

Default Borrow the friend's laptop too...

VWTool is *very* sensitive to power management settings, etc...You don't mention *nearly* enough info to help: e.g. CPU speed, RAM, APM/ACPI enabled and settings if so, laptop brand & model.

In addition, some VagCom users have had similar problems under Win2K that has yet to be resolved.

FWIW, I "cured" my problems with an underpowered laptop by turning off virus protection.
(Libretto 50 [P75, now overclocked to 90MHz], 32MB,NT4SP5)

Win2K worked fine with VagCom for me (P233MMX, 192MB), although I have dedicated a machine to diags and it's a WinNT 4.0 box, not Win2K.
Richard

Default nearly enough info

500 MHz toshiba portege
192 MB ram
APM enabled, but will try without it today
Mcafee virus software, will try without it today also

Tried vagcom but got error saying it could find com1, but not the cable.

If you need any more info, just ask.

Default Re: nearly enough info

Should be plenty of machine

Did you try VagCom with the cable attached to the car and the car ON but not running? For Win2K, I've found that older laptops (APM vs ACPI perhaps?) need to have all power management DISABLED in the BIOS and only controlled through the power icon in Win2K. Do you have MS Office installed? If so, make sure FINDFAST (aka HOSEME is not running - I've had more screwy problems caused by findfast than I'd care to admit.
Basically, you're looking for anything running other than VWTool/VagCom, especially things that would intercept file/disk accesses. The NT/Win2K task manager is great here.

Good luck!
Richard
