What do you guys think is the best one audi put in the c5 a6.
There are four engines (2.8, 3.0, 2.7t, 4.2), but really only two (2.7T and 4.8) make sense to choose for the better one.
Personally i say the 4.2 is the better engine, in the long run there is no real replacement for displacement. Nonetheless I love my turbo. Love em.

wheel of BD's new 4.2 - all highway miles - on the drive back from Chicago. I must say that the 4.2 on the highway is a better engine than my 2.7T... lower RPMs at a given speed, tons of power on demand, decent fuel economy (comparable to the 2.7T), less noise, etc. etc.. It was a noticeable difference. The car begged to run all day at 80-85 mph-that seemed to be its "natural speed".
Conversely, for most of my driving (back roads, stop and go, etc.) I'd take the 2.7T: more low end grunt, better fuel economy under those conditions, plenty of power, etc.
So it really depends on the situation and your priorities. I'm still very happy with the 2.7T but if I were going on a cross country trip I'd be happier with a 4.2 (for that trip).
Maybe the best solution is the 4.2T as Dave Lee pointed out! ;-)

Also, the V8 only comes in Tiptronic...but the 2.7 can be found in 6-speed (the selling point for me). My next C5 will likely be a V8.
