I went to start my 2001 A6 2.7T (26,000 miles - stock) in a public parking lot and no joy. Car would not start despite endless cranking. Called Audi Roadside Assistance and they said the truck would be there in no longer than 90 minutes. Kept cranking while waiting and after about 15 minutes of attempts, and probably significantly shortening the starter life, the car started. Called and cancelled tow and then called local dealer, Prestige Imports (Colorado). Told them the problem and they said soonest they could get me in was 4 weeks from now. I explained that the car had been randomly hard starting for about a week and now was about to apparently strand me. The service tech actually said "oh well, that's the soonest". I again explained the problem and asked to please get me in sooner. He said "nope, that's it. Bring it in and we'll get you a rental for 4 weeks, at your expense." Unbelievable. Guess I'll drive it for the next 4 weeks and let them tow it if it dies. Checked VagCom and found code 16500 - Engine Coolant Tem. Senser (G62): Implausible Signal 35-10 Intermittent. Any ideas why this would lead to hard starting. Sorry for the rant, I'm just pissed.

With my ready-to-rip attitude still up and running I called Prestige again. I got a different service tech this time around. He was completely different. He asked me to bring the car in tomorrow and they would provide a free loaner and have my car back to me no later than Monday. Wow, what a difference.

If the ECU thinks the car's cold when it's actually warmed up, it will enrich the mixture and the car won't start or will be very difficult to start.
