Procedure to Reset Service Inspection/Check Engine - 1998 A6, 5 Valve (no tool required)
Lost my manual. Could someone post the procedure. I have reset oil changes before using the dash buttons (without need for any reset tool).
Also had Check Engine light come on after a rough istart (after washing car and moved it back to garage). Will it go out by itself. Car runs smooth now - no rough idle/start.

Sounds like car wash syndrome
first noticed in BMWs coupla years ago. Folks would back their cars out of the garage, wash, and then try to restart to pull back into garage. Car very reluctant to start, finally catches after lots of cranking, runs like it's about to self-destruct.
The natural assumption was that something happened during the carwash, water got into the electronics or something. But it turns out that if German engines are started but not run until they warm up, the ECU gets all messed up and it's trouble time. So the rule of thumb is, even if you only have to move the car 10 feet to wash it, you should still take it all the way around the block until you get a reading on the temp gauge.
It took me a while to convince the wife that this was real and that I wasn't just procrastinating on the carwash, but now that I do this every time I have no more trouble.
