Mobil 1's product is GL-5 which is incompatible with any transmission that contains brass parts. This Audi transmission cannot use GL-5.

Check your manual to be sure but for my 6 speed O1E A4 I used the same fluid posted by Jasbon above. It's not cheap but definitively felt a big difference after changing.
Allocation of mechanical units: 6-speed Manual Transmission 01E, AWD
(2.5 Ltr.) synthetic oil, SAE 75W90 Part No.
G 052 911 A1 (container size, 0.5 liter)
G 052 911 A2 (container size, 1.0 liter)
Rear final drive 01R (1.5 Ltr.)
Gear oil G 052 145 A1 (container size, 0.5 liter)
Gear oil G 052 145 S2 (container size, 1.0 liter)
I also used the opportunity to install the dimple magnetic plug - M22X1.5X14 will find out how it works the next time I change the oil I guess![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Thats such an old wives tale. GL-5 does not hurt brass parts. Its like the myth of green coolant eats aluminum parts, rediculous. It specifies G 005 000 - Synthetic SAE 75W90 Gear Oil. Just use somthing like mobile 1 or redline or royal purple

I believe this is correct, with some caveats. See the following. You need a GL-5 with two characteristics:
1. recent formulation to be brass safe (generally synchro-safe)
2. friction modifiers to allow synchros to work effectively
Many GL-5s are for hgih pressure, high temperature gears- great for the rear end/final drive, but are in fact too slippery to work well. Zero friction, zero synchronization.

Mobil on their web site specifically states that its GL-4/GL-5 gear lube is not to be used in manual transmissions specked for GL-4. The 6 speed Audi transmission calls for GL-4. Not a myth after all.
