Proper tire size?

I have resolved the wheel issue, and found a nice set of S4 17" Avus wheels for my '01 2.7T (man, these are hard to find!). Thanks for all your input.
The tires on the wheels are 225/45/17, while the OEM for my car was 215/55/16. Using the Miata tire size calculator (which was referenced in past threads and listed below), this results in a 1.3% variance between the speedo and actual speed. Any issues with this 1.3% variance?
I know that the optimum tire size for this wheel is 235/45/17, but these tires came with the wheels and have plenty of tread left.

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html</a

there a way to recalibrate the speedo when you put different size tires on so that there is no variance? The wheels I'm getting are 255/35/18 and that puts me at 1.1% variance. I'm not worried, but if there was a way to recalibrate the speedo based on a different size tire, that would be nice!

I think the issue was the car was just plain to heavy for the load capacity of a 225/45. I could be wrong but you sure don't want to find out in a hard corner.

Actually 235/45/17 is a bit big for the 7.5" wide rims that come with the S4 or 2.7t sport package. I think you will actually do a bit better with the narrower tire because it will be better supported on that rim. Most of the aftermarket 17" rims on the A6 are 8" wide and the 18" rims are either 8" or 8.5" wide. I found that when I went to 235/45/17 on my BBS RC Audi sport wheels, that the outer edges were wearing extremely fast, much faster than the rest of the tire. It appears that the tread is rolling under in hard cornering and running on the edge. I went through a set of S03s in 12-13k miles, although I probably could have gotten a few thousand more if I had rotated them more.
I am now running 18x8.5" with Pilot Sport PS2s (235/40/18) but they haven't been on long enough for me to know if they will last any better than the other wheel/tire combo.
