Do it, you can check for leak around the pan gasket and sensor. It's easy to do and worth it.

Default Sure, go ahead and remove it, if you like - just be sure not to drive the car without it on!

I understand the pan is important for airflow and proper cooling of the engine.

When replacing the pan, be sure it is replaced in the exact position as before it was removed and that all the bolts are replaced in their proper location. It's not difficult if you have the correct size/type of drivers.

Default You will be fine without it on. Left mine off for a week and a 7 hour drive with no

problems what so ever. 7 hour drive at 80-85mph.

Oh, you can remove and put it back on without lifting the car up.

Bad advice, the cover isn't put there to catch oil drips.

Default Certainly not part of the cooling system it is after all ..

liquid cooled and you are doing nothing to stop the flow of air to the radiator. You might end up with a dirty engine compartment much sooner but I doubt it is dangerous to run without it.

I think it also prevents a lot of splash, road grime and projectiles.

Default I believe the pan has more to do with fuel efficiency (drag) than either cooling or protection.

General aerodynamics as well... I noticed mine has little venturis in it to speed up air and reduce lift.

Default Okay, since you asked...

it has everything to do with the cooling system.

By removing the belly pan the amount and direction of the air being sent to the radiator is changed. The amount of air going in the front is directly related to how it's being exchanged back out for cooler air.

The pan directs airflow through the engine compartment, across the transmission and all three differentials.

If you redirect that airflow in the engine bay and under the car you change the operating temperature of the entire drive system.

There is plenty of documentation to back me up including the AW database. It's been stated by Audi (through dealers) that if you remove the pan and operate the vehicle you void your warranty.

This is pretty easy to understand and should be a no-brainer.
