...A4 advantages:
new
more warranty
quicker/fewer l/100km
smaller/easier to park
sportier
...A6 advantages:
more room
more luxurious
Audi Assured????

When I bought my A6 Avant I was trying to go with the A4 but it was just too small.........needed to carry hockey bags or snowboards in the back and occasionally "real" adults in the backseat...couldn't pull it off with the A4 so went A6 and have been super happy....going to an S6 early in 2003

I and currently leasing an 1999 A4 1.8 Avant and also just bought a 2001 A6 2.7t. As powerful as the 2.7 is I still prefer taking out the A4 if I am going off for a drive alone. However, I have been criticized for not caring about my occupants because the backseat of an A4 is just not fit for any normal size male adul4s.
I agree with many of the comments previously posted. Unless you need the space or like to drive leisurely rather than spiritedly go with the A6 if not you'll be a lot happier with an A4.

way way more room, more options and overall better ride. Car is a bit heavier but handles great even with stock Goodyears, and I am not talking feeling great, its only a tad slower through almost all the ramps and corners near my house than my Acure Integra GS-r with Potenza RE730s, Yes I have to be more smoother with my inputs since the weight makes it tail happy when really pushing but its not bad at all...
i recommend A6 Avant.

I would go for the new A4 If I did'nt had enough money to buy an S6 and absolutely wanted an Avant I would go for the new A4, look nice, the 3.0 is not a bad engine and has probably more punch than the old 2.8L of the A6 avant.
