Thanks for the great post on the steering wheel upgrade. The only difference is that my car which is a U.S 97 A8 did not come with a tiptronic transmition. It is the one without it. My steering wheel comes with radio bottons and I don't care in loosing them. I want to upgrade mine to a 3-spoke steering wheel without the tiptronic controls cause I have no use for them. I am currently looking on ebay.de at the follwing auction, and it says that is for Audi A8 too.
original Audi Sportlenkrad aus Edelholz!!! (Item # 2413071484)
If I upgrade my steering wheel to this one, I will be more than happy. I just need to know what other part is required on doing this upgrade.
to see the pic of my steering wheel you can check the following auction on ebay:
Audi : A8 (Item # 2413273715)
thanks for eveything.

...to insure that it includes the Airbag. You'll also have to remember that Euro airbags are different from US bags and may use different sensors - meaning that you may get an unexpected deployment, one that is too early or too late.
IMHO it just isn't worth the risk. Swapping steering wheels without the proper technical knowledge is like handing a six year old a loaded gun - you might get lucky, but it could (literally) blow up in your face....

The wiring harnesses come through different places on each of those wheels, on yours it's at the bottom, on that one it's at the top, so the cancelling ring will need to be different, but the newer configuration cancelling ring won't mount on your steering column.
Plus then you would have to hack all the wiring to get the horn and the airbag to work.

Paul the member who said that he did an upgrade on his 4-spoke steering wheel posted the following reply after he read your reply to my question. Is it true that A8's wiring harnesses come through different place unlike the ones on the A6.
here is his post.
"The wiring harnesses come through different places on each of those wheels": I have played with the 3-spoke, 3-spoke with Tip, 4-spoke, all for an A6, and the wires came through at the same location.
However, yours is a A8 and I have zero knowledge on that car. So PaulW may be very right, trust him.
