Questions re; TIP recode?

My TCM (already updated to DJ version) was recoded to 00032 from stock. As advertised, can now hold 1st in the TIP mode. Two observations:
1. TIP mode manual shifts seem slower/delayed vs crisper as some have reported;
2. Still have 4, 3, and 2nd available in the auto mode. Newer Sport Mode is just D and S.
Supposedly (per drhaller, 2002-04-21 TCM coding experiment), 00032 "combines the behaviors" of coding values 00012 (Sport Mode)and 00022 (hold 1st to redline in Tip mode). Therefore, should 4,3 and 2 still be operable or did they simply code to 00022 vs 00032. I know this sounds convoluted but my impression is that a lot of people have done this mod. Comments pls.

4, 3, and 2 function just as before (although it is possible that, within their ranges, the shift RPMs have increased somewhat... I've never checked).
I don't grasp what you are asking in your last paragraph. But, this mod is really simple. Sport mode is just higher RPMs. Redline in 1st is simply that. No other changes.
Don't know what to say about crispness. I never really believed it helped much or at all.

vs the "newer" tranny D being one mode and S giving the higher RPMs, hence, Sport Mode? If my main motivation was control over 1st in Tip mode, should I have recoded to 00022 vs 00032?

I think I wrote about my impressions for a 2001 at some length, saying that it fixes the feeling that the tranny is upshifting shifting too early, and that shifts feel more smooth, less noticeable, and more as one would expect and desire. I don't believe it affects MPG noticeably. No drawback, AFAIK. Since the pre-2002 cars only have D and no S mode, the recoded setting is a nice compromise.
Some people actually like the auto shift-into-second feature of the Tip, because it is so easy to accidentally rev 1st gear very high, very quickly. I'm undecided, myself.
I don't have experience with the 99 cars in this respect, nor do I know about the TCM version numbers. Perhaps someone else does, or perhaps a search would help.

The shifts are not any quicker and the gas mileage seems to have been affected. It does hold first in Tip mode. Never tried 4-3-2 since I never really use them.
THe GIAC tranny chip is the way to go if you wish the shifts to be quicker. I have forgotten the numbers but it was like .1-.4 seconds quicker per shift.
When a Gtech was used on a car that had the Stock ECU and stock Tranny chip the 0-60mph was 6.45. By adding the GIAC tranny chip the times were 6.2-6.30 and thats with only one shift(1-2. There are no 1/4 mile numbers with this setup.
With another setup that was running 14.04 no GIAC tranny chip, the shifts were real slow. That car then ran 13.9 with the GIAC in, and the conditions were horrible-103-104degrees and the alt was ~1200'. To compare it to the 14.04 time that was at Carlsbad the corrected time would be 13.80(for alt correction only. I think it would be 13.7's, so a drop of .3 seconds over the quarter with the chip.
I have the DJ version because of the 2-1 clunk and the on-throttle-off-on clunk in traffic. The DJ version fixed that for me.
Back to the original topic : ) , I may switch back to the stock coding because first is basically useless since its revs up so quick.
