Default Quick Poll: Aux water pump replacement, I got an estimate of $800, what did others pay?

Argh.... 85k miles is adding up in the pocket book. Next audi, I'm getting the extended warranty. They didn't have it when I got mine.

Cheers-

Default Had mine done in Oct. last year at the dealer...

I have the invoice in front of me...$690.15. My extended warranty kicked in squat on this repair...Though I've heard others write it was covered in their policies...;/

Mine was replaced last month at the dealer for approx. $650. Most of the cost is labor-5 hrs worth.

Default That sounds high. Unfortunately, IME with the older Audis using the same pumps, we will all be...

replacing them on the 2.7T engines around 70-100k miles.

You could replace them on the old five cylinder turbos in about 10 minutes as the pump was out in the open. On the 2.7T, the pump is _under_ the intake manifold, which requires the removal of a lot of components to get at it, and the replacement of misc. gaskets, etc. upon reassembly. Also because of the location, you are unlikely to notice the leakage until it fails catastrophically, which will strand you. On the old cars, you could easily bypass the pump to get mobile. BTDT a couple of times.

What really astounds me is that this same afterrun pump has been used for almost twenty years, and they still haven't found a good design or suitable alternative.

Default Showing my noobness... I had the water pump and all belts replaced at 60k miles. Is there a 2nd/aux

water pump? If so, then I guess I have to replace it. If not, and this is the same pump, I'm guessing it's still covered under warranty from the shop I had it done at.

Cheers-

Default Yes-the secondary pump is the one that maintains circulation to the turbos after the engine

is turned off. A pretty commonplace failure, it appears.
