me in my 2001 4.2 (preferred/sport) and some guy in a 2 door, couple of years old (previous body style), S600 with his wife and kid.
We were at a stop light, with nothing but open road in front of us. It was only one lane leading up to the light, then two lanes at the light and for maybe the next 1/8 mile before shrinking back to a single lane. The MB had been dawdling in front of me, staying right at the 35 mph speed limit.
Now I'm to the right of him at the light, and he starts to edge forward. Hmmm, I think.
We both timed the light and punched it just as it went green. It was basically a dead heat up till I had to back off around 65 mph because my lane was the one which ended. Another 1/8 mile and it opened back up to two lanes, so I came up next to him and we exchanged admiring nods.
I don't think he knew what a 4.2 could do and had expected to blow my doors off with his V12. Makes me curious what would have happened if we had been on an Interstate highway and could have kept on going.
I'm still grinning.

I don't believe the Mercedes made a big thing of your game, because I made my own experience with such a baby.
Once I was turning with my 4.2 onto our german Autobahn, with a CL500 in my neck. Traffic was very low, so I could rev up to maximum speed (the 4.2 is limited at 250km/h, mine makes 265km/h on the gauge) in once. As most of you know, we usually have no speed limit on most parts of our Autobahn here in Germany.
I was speeding almost up to 200km/h (about 125mph) in once, the CL did not loose only an inch to me. We both were now on the left of the 3 laned highway with some slower cars in the middle and right. Just when we both passed the last car in the middle, I changed one lane to the right, the CL500 stayed left. And just within a few seconds ha had passed me, allready going with 230km/h at that time. Boy, I had no chance at all. And this was only the CL500 (the CL600 was not released at that time)! Now the CL600 has about 90 HPs more than the CL500, so I just can't believe your "partner" gave all he was able to.

and not geared for a sprint. What you were doing was what the big S class cars are designed to do, which is to be rock solid from 100 to 150mph. They rule the autobohn other than the occasional A8 and 7 series BMW, nothing went by me faster than the big S class cars
