regarding a problem with my '98 2.8Q trans.

Problem- After being on the highway for 30-40 miles or more, when I exit the highway, come to a stop at end of ramp, then accelerate away, on the 2-3 upshift the trans will not hit 3rd right away. It will find a "false neutral" and over rev before it hits 3rd. Happens in D or in Tip, and at all throttle positions. On one occasion, I was accelerating hard using tip, and shifted at 5000 out of 2nd- engine hit rev limiter in "false neutral before banging into 3rd. This only happens once. won't happen again until I get back on the highway and travel agaain.

Proposed solution- dealer thinks that the adaptive memory in the trans is learning an incorrect code. But we never find a fault code in the trans.

Wants to recode the trans to 00001, which aparently puts the trans in standard mode and eliminates the adaptive memory.

Any thoughts from those of you who have recoded your Tips to 00032?

I've never experienced the behavior you mention.

And you can't recode the 99 to 00032. Tried it but it failed to accept the new code.

Were you able to recode the 2.8 to anything better? Dealer will recode at no charge for me.
