Recoded A6 TIP experience

"D" mode is pretty much the same...
...but it seems to me there's less throttle modulation during the shifts. This isn't based on anything scientific, just my 20+ minute drive after recoding. Anyone that didn't know the TCM was recoded probably won't notice any dofference in "D".

Naw, plenty of grunt in 2nd for that turn
Key is the braking, and your line up for the apex. I come into the braking zone still in 3rd from the quick little "S" area and brake/downshift to 2nd and when I turn in I am already feeding it throttle before the apex and 2nd carries you out very nicely and smoothly. Course I never try to make my car work too hard. One time I came thru there with a bad line and too aggessive with the throttle and it downshifted to first(slight wait), then it was in first for about 2 seconds and then it shifted to second(another wait), so what may feel faster might not be the case. Theres no shifting lag going on if your still in 2nd the whole way and are feeding it throttle before the apex(line up and a good entry speed is the key).

I had a famous race driver prove to me second is faster in ANY corner than first...
It works believe me. Shifting costs time and the shift from second to first and back to second is slower than staying in second and waiting for the power to build.
Remember this applies to street cars only.
Most race cars have a very tall first that is usable on a race track.
This is all my opinion of course.

Faster shifting is NOT reported by most others...
I don't think on average that the shifts are measurably more rapid. For that, you need a GIAC Tip chip.
But, after modding, the shifting in D is less adaptive to your driving style, and thus more predictable. Perhaps it doesn't suffer from some of the indecision that can happen at certain of the adaptive shift programs. The predictability and smooth power delivery makes it SEEM crisper, also.
That is nothing to sneeze at.

Is there anyone in the Sout Bay (Los Angeles) that can help out a fellow AudiWorlder with...
recode? I would be happy to pay you for your time and tool use (that doesn't sound right). Also, looking to rentthe use of a VAG tool from someone to reprogram my doors.
Thanks,
Rick

Here's a useful source. Now if only the 99 2.8 could be done!

Re: So the harsh 2-1 downshift formerly limited to TIP mode now happens in (D)? That's a small probl
I've found that I can avoid the thunk if I downshift to 1st while in tip just before the computer would do it. The shift then feels like it does in "d" mode.
