So this may not be a permanent fix. But as long as I can reset the light as easily as this it is still better than tearing apart the dash to install a new module. Plus, much cheaper.

I will post if the light comes back on and I can no longer reset it.
From what I understand (I think MTykhnenko responded to this), the memory fault has to do with corrupt memory, and eventually the whole thing will go. You reset the module and it works until it tries to access the defective memory space, at which time it'll trigger the light again.

At the end, there's no escaping - eventually you'll need a replacement

You may be right. I am simply the ever optimist who is looking for a way to keep my 13 year old Audi running safely without breaking the bank. If I can nurse my airbag module along by resetting the memory a few times a year then I am happy.

Are you telling me what I am doing is bad? Or just delaying the inevitable?

After resetting the airbag light many times it will no longer reset. The voodoo box worked for a few years but the light is on and the box no longer shuts it off. Will just used to seeing the airbag light.

Any truth to the common understanding that cars ten or more years old have a significant number of accidents where the airbags fail to deploy even though there is no airbag fault present?

I was able to reset the light, turn it off, with the voodoo box. Just took a few attempts. It has been 4 years now and the airbag light turns on more frequently. Maybe 6-10 times a year. I am still able to turn it off. I have no interest in replacing the module in this 16 year old car. Taking my chances the airbag will work if needed. Been told by several who supposedly are knowledgeable that the bag will likely work even if the light is on. And, on this old a car I understand there are other issues that could cause the airbags to malfunction. So I could replace the module and still have a malfunction.

Being stupid and cheap and taking my chances.

Keeping these old Audis on the road and safe without breaking the bank or spending too much time on them is a matter of balance. We are down to just one left. I drive it daily and still enjoy it. But have relegated it to local trips only. I will miss it. Made a pact not to spend more than $500 on any repair. Won’t drive it if it becomes a safety issue. Otherwise just letting it age out.
